Scottish ExecutiveEdinburgh and
Glasgow The Scottish Government is the central department
dealing with Scottish matters. The
creation of the Scottish Parliament has provided the opportunity to be
involved in new policy developments since it has legislative and tax
varying powers, with control over domestic affairs in Scotland. The Scottish Government is at
the centre of many aspects of life with responsibilities which include
health, education, housing, the countryside and environmental issues,
roads, transport, police and prisons, economic development and rural
affairs The wide range of functions is executed through six
Directorates as follows:
What do our economists do? Our economists are currently located in Edinburgh
and Glasgow, supporting the directorates above. There are close links with statisticians and social
researchers and most areas combine the 3 professional groups. There are also close links with policy and finance branches,
agencies and Non-Departmental Public Bodies, and thus the economics work
is closely focused on policy and administrative issues, sometimes through
team working. There are also
budgets for economics research, which allow close links with universities
and other research establishments. Assistant Economist starting salary is £23,095 with
additional recognition for a relevant post-graduate qualification. Our economists are currently involved in briefing on all aspects of the Scottish economy and advising on the overall
economic development for the five core strategic objectives of a
Wealthier and Fairer, Healthier, Safer and Stronger, Smarter and Greener
Scotland More information For more details about working as an economist in
