What qualifications do I need?
To join as an Assistant Economist you need to have, or
expect to obtain in 2009, a first or upper second-class
honours degree in economics, or a postgraduate degree in
economics. At least 50% of the course modules must be in
economics. You must have studied both macro and microeconomics
to qualify. If you graduated more than 2 years ago you must be
in an economics based job to demonstrate you have kept your
economics skills up to date.

Posts are open to UK nationals but most departments also
have posts open to Commonwealth citizens and EEA nationals.

You must be a British citizen. There is also a residency
requirement.
2008 ECONOMIST FAST STREAM SCHEME
Please note: This scheme is now closed.
The 2009 recruitment scheme is likely to open mid
September. More details will be available soon.
Please note that you may not apply for the GES
scheme on more than one occasion between 17 September 2008 and
30 April 2009. If you apply for Round 2 of either the
Economist or Statistician schemes having already applied in
Round 1, or applied for a Graduate Fast Stream or GCHQ schemes
for 2007, it constitutes a second application and will receive
an automatic fail.
